Spiritual Happiness

“The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes from within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness with the universe and all its powers; and when they realize at the center of the universe dwells the Great Spirit. And that its center is really everywhere. It is within each of us.”Black Elk

So many of us want to find peace. Trying to soothe past hurt, hearts cry out for serenity. But most days must be lived as if everything was okay. When others ask, “how are you”? People reply fine, or alright. Not wanting to unload their burden on others, although their life may be in turmoil. Uncertainty degrades the spirit and hesitation takes hold.

Anxiety causes great distress which agitates our soul. No matter the brightness of the day, there is that inner fault finder and nitpicker that whispers in some people’s ears. Imperfections expand to become barriers which seem insurmountable. Self-defeating passivity sets in, making the the possible seem to be just out of reach. This in turn neutralizes motivation. People’s habits become ingrained patterns. Years can pass with little to distinguish one from the next. But life does not have to be that way. Always expecting the answer to come from an external source, closes the path to actual fulfillment. To quote Krishnamurti, “The primary cause of disorder in ourselves is the seeking of reality promised by another.”

Do not seek serenity through another. Discover the truth of your life within. Soul searching should not be tortuous or agonizing. Instead open yourself to the joy of self-discovery. There is within all people an unbreakable core of being. This ceaseless center of true reality awaits the seekers of peace. Find the Way past self-imposed restraints. The inner journey is joyous. No one can tell another what to find there. Each experience is unique. But each spirit is connected to the divine essence.

Rays of comforting light will liberate the spirit from the darkness. This is real. This is true. Great teachers and spiritual leaders can describe the spiritual center and offer guidance. But individuals must find their own pathway. If you have found inner peace, bless you. If you seek to understand, take the first steps on your inner pilgrimage towards the first peace joyously.
