Look at how a single candle can both defy and define the darkness. – Anne Frank

Many times events in our lives become tangled up and our days devolve into chaos. It seems there is no end to the trials and tribulations. That is why holidays and taking time away from the hustle and bustle is critical to our mental and spiritual health. Give yourself a holiday from the worries of frenetic life, and relight the little pilot light inside your heart.

Take time away from the competition and the struggle to get ahead. Put aside squabbles and old arguments. Stand instead in the light of peace and joy. Recharge your soul during these days of long nights. Unwind in your spiritual refuge in order to illuminate your heart once again with joyous vigor.

Once your heart-energy is recharged let your candle shine brightly for those around you. Show your love in your smile and warm embrace. Send out your heartfelt tidings for great comfort joy. Do not wait. Celebrate the year that is passing and prepare together for what may come in the year ahead. Be a bulwark against adversity and appreciate these bright, shining moments.

Our perspective on life can change greatly depending on our viewpoint. As an example, when I photographed this piece of driftwood – on the left the wood is in shadows and dark. I walked around 180 degrees and the warmth and brightness of the wood shone through. By changing how you see the world your world can change. Instead of brooding in shadows, turn the other way and take in the light. Let that light blaze from your heart into the gloominess of those in need. From this day forward, begin to shine. Love, peace and joy to all.
